At East Downs Rd, Bowdon we were commissioned to fully restore a Georgian casement window to one of the property’s reception rooms. The existing window suffered from cold and draughty casements making the room unusable during winter months and insecure. The property is stunning, and naturally the owners put the protection of its heritage as their top priority. And yet quite rightly wanted a room they could use all-year-round.
OEWCo provided a consultation to understand the concerns of the client, gave a number of options to solve these with a recommendation of using a tailored restoration-based approach, whilst meeting their thermal efficiency expectations.
Our approach was to retain the structural frame but recreate the existing timber casements in exacting detail. Using our discretely fitted ultra slim heritage double glazed glass units we were able to maintain the original glazing bar thickness. The client was delighted with the vastly increased thermal and noise-reduction qualities of their restoration project and that we used a traditional putty-pointing method to finish the work.
The restoration was finished-off using quality brass hinges and locking ironmongery in a period style, increasing security but without compromising the finish.
