We were commissioned at St John’s Avenue, Knutsford to meet the challenge of restoration of an existing porch, door and windows in a conservation area. The Victorian terraced property, lies within the St John’s conservation area and retains most of the beautiful period features that you would expect, however the original storm porch and stained front door and frame had been removed by a previous owner.
The existing timber windows were of great architectural importance to the property, having unique details to the internal frames and leaded top lights to the casements. However, this was obscured by the ugly use of secondary glazing. The windows were also cold draughty and rotten.
In order to create a sympathetic restoration existing frame / casement sizes were retained within the new window, as well as the intricate period details. Stained glass was recreated within new thermally efficient double glazed units without any compromise with the period look.
OEWCo removed the existing porch in its entirety, and provided new brickwork columns carefully blended into the existing brickwork, replicated a new front door and frame from the original one next door, and provided new leaded double-glazed units unique to the property and yet in keeping with its surroundings.
